Kaththea Azzurra Rowland

Born in Catania, Sicily on January 8, 1981. Kaththea Azzurra’s name was chosen by a joint effort between her father and aunt. Her father chose Kaththea (a character) from Andre Norton’s Witchworld series while her aunt chose Azzurra as a tribute to Marlene Dietrich referred to in Italy as “L’angelo azzurro,” (the blue angel).She spent her early years living in various parts of Europe and Cuba. As a child she was mostly known for improvising skits and dances for anyone willing to watch or attempting to scare her friends with the numerous horror stories she wrote at the time. At the age of 8, she began to study piano after falling in love with Beethoven’s Fur Elise. At the age of 14, she received a recognition for her musical ability at a piano recital, participating with a work from Beethoven. During her adolescence, her dark inclination made her turn more towards drama and poetry, diminishing her interest in music. Around the age of 13 she began to write poems as an attempt to rid herself of her “inner demons” and angst. At 14, she published her first poem, The Love Song appearing in various anthologies over the years as well as receiving an honourable mention by the Illiad Press.After high school, she pursued to further her studies by enrolling herself in university. She studied at the following universities: University of Maryland, Oklahoma University, and Oxford University. She received an Associate’s Degree in Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Letters: Classical Studies. During the years of 2000-2002, she contributed poems, concert/music reviews, interviews for 'zines such as Absinta, Generation X, Exotika, and Ashes. She received a Master's Degree in Communication and Education from the University of Phoenix in 2006. In 2003, Bruised and Broken, a biography about Placebo’s frontman Brian Molko, was released. The book caused much controversy between Placebo fans dividing them between the ones who loved the book to those that completely hated it with Brian Molko threatening to slap her on TRL (MTV Italy). She spent 2004 working as a journalist, writing reviews for Flashgiovani an online magazine in Bologna while 2005 saw her portraying the role of Sibyl Vane in a theatrical version of Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. Her second book, Strip Me, an intimate collection of poems, diary entries, unsent letters, and confessions was released in December 2005, while her third book, Lipstick Traces, was published by Crystal Dreams Publishing in the summer of 2006. The book is a fictional account of a true events, where the author uses autobiographical references as a means to narrate a very tragic tale of a young woman who loses her heart to a dark musician. She is currently working on her fourth book.
