The Lady of Pain, vigilant defender of Sigil, keeps an ongoing memoir of her existence. Here, in her own words, is her eternal story. Interspersed with these memoir passages is a story that takes plae in the maze where threats to Sigil are incarcerated for all eternity.

Aereas is dead. His daughter is growing up to be a beautiful woman, learning from her unle the business of espionage. Nina is close to dying. Her son is training in music at the shop of Boffo the Gnome. The Blood War itself still rages. Even the heavens shake with its fury, and they may well topple, unless these children of heroes truly bear their parents' blood.

The endless Blood War rages, a never-ending battle between the fiends of the planes. Amid this horrific conflict, a single hero with no memory of his past seeks to discover his true identity. Of course, this being the planes, his companions on his quest are ... unusual. But if you can't trust a floating skull, an eccentric investor, and a succubus, who can you trust? Practically no one.
