Sherlock Holmes is missing his right hand man, Dr Watson. His much younger sister Enola is hiding from her older Holmes brothers, but knows the bizarre bouquet that arrives at the Watson residence spells death - convolvulus, hawthorn, and white poppies. She dons her most discerning disguise, and seeks the sender.

London January 1889. Enola 14 hides from worried brother Sherlock, until Dr Watson consults her imaginary identity, Perditorian Dr Ragostin. As Mrs Ragostin, Enola seeks Lady Cecily 16, vanished in nightgown, leaving ladder at window, bold charcoal sketches and mirror-writing diaries about East End poor. Was store clerk suspect, Alexander Finch, just a friend?

When Enola Holmes encounters her friend Lady Cecily hiding behind a pink fan, she finds it peculiar. Cecily is being held hostage in an abysmal orphanage, forced into a miserable marriage. Enola joins forces with the much older famous brother Sherlock who she has fought desperately to elude, and risks her own freedom to rescue her friend.
