specialized subjects). Elena Viktorovna Markova is a teacher of pantomime and a theatre
historian, Ph. D. in History of Arts, a professor at the academic depart-
ment of foreign art at Saint-Petersburg State Academy of Theatrical
Art, a stage manager of plasticity in drama and puppet theatres, the
author of several books and many articles. The book «Lessons of pantomime» is an attempt of consistent de-
scription and analysis of the school «mime pur» (French «clear panto-
mime»), the creator of which is Etienne Decroux, French reformer, who
educated many outstanding actors of the 20th century. The textbook tells about the important stages of teaching pantomime. They include articular-muscular gymnastics, technique of pantomime
(space and time modeling with the help of plasticity), and modeling of
spatiotemporal compositions of different complexity (solo, paired, group). The book is going to be interesting for the students of theatre aca-
demies and colleges, teachers, actors, directors and for a wide range of
